About Us

Summerside Montessori Children’s Studio is a licensed (L4648), high-quality early childhood program serving 3 infants, and 9 toddlers and preschoolers in Summerside, PEI. Licensed for up to 12 children, we offer a peaceful, beautiful, and resource-rich Montessori environment with full-day programming.
Our program is built on the principles of respect, independence, and deep engagement. Our classrooms are light-filled and thoughtfully prepared. Educators are supported, mentored, and encouraged to bring their gifts to the children, the team, and the community.
At Summerside Montessori Children’s Studio, we are creating a small, high-quality program where children and educators grow together in an environment built on respect, creativity, and care.

What Makes Us Unique

A Warm Montessori Environment: Our classrooms are filled with natural wood materials, living plants, and trauma-informed colours. The result is a calm, natural, and inspiring space for both children and educators.
Following the Child: Children are given time for extended work cycles, which allow them to choose activities intentionally, follow their curiosity, and stay deeply engaged in meaningful learning. Educators support this process by observing, guiding, and introducing new activities as children grow and develop.
Learning Together: You don’t need Montessori experience to apply. What matters most is your commitment to quality care, respect for children, and a willingness to learn. We’ll provide mentorship and professional development so you can grow into Montessori practice at your own pace.
Nature & Play: Indoors and outdoors, children learn through natural beauty—plants, wood, natural light, and a growing outdoor play program.
Supportive, Close-Knit Team: With a small team, you’ll feel connected, appreciated, and supported in your professional growth. We value fun, creativity, and collaboration every day.
Professional Development Built In: We close for the ECDA conference each year and host our own 3-day summer retreat for team-building, strategic planning, and professional growth.
Here, quality is our cornerstone—in the environment, in our relationships, and in the learning experiences we offer.

Important News!!

We are absolutely thrilled to share that Summerside Montessori Children’s Studio has officially been approved for probationary designation by the Department of Education and Early Years.

This means we will soon be able to offer our high-quality Montessori child care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers through the $10aDay program, making our unique, child-led program more accessible to families in our community.
It has been a long journey since our application in February 2025, and we are deeply grateful for the ongoing support of our families, educators, and community.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to the Department of Education and Early Years and to MLA Matthew B. MacFarlane for their support in helping to make this possible. We also want to thank our incredible families who have stood by us since we opened in June.
Over the coming weeks, we will finalize our funding agreement and begin preparing to gradually welcome new children into our program. We will also be hiring additional educators and support staff.
If you are an Early Childhood Educator who believes in following the child, values personal and professional growth, and is looking to join a well-resourced, very high-quality program, please send your resume to SummersideMontessori@gmail.com. We will begin scheduling interviews soon.
If you are a family interested in joining our program, be sure to join our waitlist through the PEI Child Care Registry. You are also welcome to email us to share your child care needs.

Our Values

At Summerside Montessori, we believe that children learn best when they are given the freedom to explore, make choices and engage with their environment in meaningful ways. Our classroom areas are designed to encourage self-directed learning, where children can work at their own pace with materials that support their developmental needs. We emphasize respect for each child's unique learning journey and provide guidance that nurtures both academic and social growth.

Our Program Includes

  • Montessori Work Cycle: A two-to-three-hour uninterrupted period where children select activities that interest them and work independently or in small groups.
  • Outdoor Play: At least 60 to 120 minutes of outdoor activity per day, allowing children to develop gross motor skills, engage in nature-based play, and socialize with peers.
  • Open Snack & Lunch Times: Children participate in preparing the classroom for mealtimes and sometimes even contribute to meal preparation, fostering independence and responsibility.
  • Rest & Quiet Time: A designated period for children who need to rest, while others engage in quiet activities such as reading or working with materials.
  • Group Activities & Cultural Exploration: Storytelling, music, movement, art and cultural lessons that enrich the child’s understanding of the world around them.
