From the Alberta Purchasing Connection Website:
Alberta has thousands of skilled child care professionals who are dedicated to promoting nurturing, learning environments that support our children in their early years. To ensure a steady supply of skilled and qualified child care professionals ready and able to fill child care staff vacancies, Alberta will actively advance the child care profession as a desirable, rewarding and attractive career option for high school students.
Alberta Children and Youth Services has implemented a new initiative to support high school students looking at child care as a career of choice. Working with stakeholders and government partners, the Ministry will take an active role in promoting the Government of Alberta Level 1 Orientation Course for Child Care Staff offered under the Career and Technology Studies (CTS) in Alberta high schools, known as CMH2050/3050 – Day Care 1 and Day Care 2.
Starting September 2008, a scholarship of $2500 will be available to students who have completed the Child Care Orientation Course while in high school and who enroll in an Early Learning and Child Care post-secondary program. To be eligible, students must sign a one-year return service commitment to work in a licensed or approved child care program in Alberta upon graduation.
