B.C. school trustees are calling on the government to delay
introduction of all-day kindergarten until there is adequate and stable
funding for the entire K-12 public school system.
They approved the motion today at a provincial council meeting in Vancouver.
The
government has said it expects half of all elementary schools to begin
offering full-day kindergarten for all five-year-olds in fall 2010. The
program would be expanded to all schools the next year.
But trustees say they don't want the program unless it is fully funded and the entire K-12 system has stable financing.
