Late last week Parents for Choice & Quality filed 2 Freedom of Information requests.
For many years, the public has not known the statistics on the
number of preschool children affected by autism on Prince Edward
Island. According to the Center for Disease Control
the prevalence of autism is 1 in 150 children. According to the 2007
PEI Annual Statistic Review there are approximately 1300 births on
Prince Edward Island. Based on the CDC’s prevalence rate, there should
be approximately 8.6 children born each year on PEI that will be
affected by autism.
On Friday, February 20, 2009, Parents for Choice and Quality Society filed two Freedom of Information
requests with the government of Prince Edward Island. We should have a
response back from each department in approximately 30 days. We will
post the information when it arrives.
