The appointment of Jeff Clow as Child and Youth Services Commissioner for P.E.I. will enhance services and supports for children, youth and families, says Finance and Municipal Affairs Minister Wes Sheridan.
Clow will work from the Department of Finance and Municipal Affairs.
Currently an administrator with the Western School Board, Clow has a wide background in child and youth based service.
“We are proud of the excellent work that is done every day in our province by so many caring people to help children become healthy, contributing adults,” said Sheridan. “But too often their work is carried out in isolation, and resources and best practices are not shared. The Child and Youth Commissioner will facilitate the coordination of child and youth services across government.”
Currently, services are offered to children and youth by four provincial government departments.
“There is much to be gained through collaboration and teamwork. The Commissioner will facilitate an inter-departmental model that focuses on the child and the sharing of best practices and resources across the province.”
After growing up in Prince Edward Island, he completed undergraduate studies at St Francis Xavier University and graduate studies at UPEI before embarking on a 22-year career in teaching and administration in Ontario and Alberta.Clow received several excellence in teaching awards, including Alberta’s Distinguished Leader of the Year award in 2009.
“He brings a passion for, and a commitment to, the welfare of children and youth, as well as the level of expertise required to undertake this challenging role,” said Sheridan.
Funding for the new position was announced recently in the 2010 provincial budget.
