In response to the many Google stories that ran over the weekend John J. Edwards III wrote a post for the Wall Street Journal’s blog The Juggle. He is trying to determine if people think that workplace child care is a basic benefit or perk.
Neither my company nor my wife’s provides on-site day care at the offices we work at, and I must admit, it never occurred to me to think of it as a basic benefit. What’s your take, readers? Should company-provided day care be part of a standard benefits package, or is it more of a luxury? Would the existence or lack of on-site care play a part in an employment decision for you?
What do you think? Would onsite child care help attract you to a company?
