Recently, April Ennis and several other parents wrote to the PEI Premier to find out why the current Kindergarten funding policy appears to be discriminating against their children in receiving access to funded Kindergarten spaces in PEI. Hmmmm…this is a really really good question. I have previously written about this issue here.
Well, now the Premier's office has finally agreed to meet with all of the parents – except April. Apparently, this is due to the fact that April previously filed a Human Rights complaint on behalf of her son related to this issue. Anyone who has been following these issues will know that April Ennis is a very strong advocate when it comes to the challenges in PEI related to child care, early learning, autism and all of the associated government policies. She is intent on removing the barriers that are in the way for many, many PEI families. The fact is that she is committed to making change. This is not an easy task that is for sure.
One wonders if it was simply more convenient for the Premier's office to exclude her from the meeting; while all the time knowing that she is obviously a driving force behind challenging this issue. If you ask me this looks like yet another case of the PEI government "hiding" behind policy. Rather convenient wouldn't you say?
