All who work (and live and play) with me know that I very much love computer technology and the wonderful things that can be done with it.
We have begun to use Skype on a regular basis as a family and are totally in love with it. It is one of those things that you wonder how you survived without before it came into existence. If you have not used Skype I encourage you to give it a try. It is a great little tool that turns your computer into a telephone system and also allows for web cam video conversations. The quality is so much better than other IM services. I must admit that I am blown away with the clarity of the Skype to Skype calls as well as the regular telephone calls. It truly feels like you are right there together in the same room – face to face. Since my husband has been away for much of this month on business, we have bridged the gap for the kids by spending time together each night on Skype. We talk, eat meals together, play games and just generally stay connected. Sometimes we just have the web cams running and it is like we are all together. It truly makes the world feel like a smaller place!
A great find this week for me was the latest tool by Google called Notebook. I have not yet spent a lot of time setting it up, but I can already see how helpful this will be for the research I do on the Internet. The best part of this tool, is that I can share information with other friends and colleagues through a collaboration tool – which allows me to open up selected notebooks with others.
Finally, several people have been asking me for the link of the main Internet radio station that I listen to…here it is www.accuradio.com. I have been listening for about a year now and do truly love the flexibility and music selection that this service offers. I understand that there are some very big issues brewing for Internet radio stations these days due to a recent decision by the US Copyright Royalty Board. I hope it can all get settled so these stations will be able to stay on the Internet.
