The Future of Media in Children’s Education: a National Conference Focused on Tweens
Stanford
University, September 29, 2009: 8:30 a.m.– 3:00 p.m.
Media’s
presence in children’s lives is ubiquitous. Television, which once was
children's dominant media device, now is accompanied by video games, computers,
cell phones and portable music players. The result is that children today grow
up totally immersed in media experiences, often engaging with two or three
different types of media at the same time. The potentially negative
consequences of children's media consumption receive a lot of attention. Yet
the unique power of media also can be used to educate children and enrich their
lives. How can we ensure that media's potential to positively impact
children's learning is fully harnessed?
Children Now
is proud to partner with The Future of Children, a collaboration of
Princeton University and The Brookings Institution, to deliver a national
conference that explores open issues of media's role in children's education.
The program will focus on tweens, presenting research from The Future of
Children journal and hearing from top experts in the field.
