The holidays are officially over. We are now jumping into the New Year with full force. Many of us will have made resolutions and set new goals for ourselves. We will collectively start the year with the best of intentions. We will move forward with clear resolve and commitment. We will do the very best that we can. We will mean well.
Then…about two weeks from now things will start to go just a little sideways. By February, our plans will have been further interrupted by our lives, which will slowly begin to get in the way of our original intentions. We will begin to make excuses for why things our messing up our once best-laid plans. Bets are that we will tell ourselves things such as:
There just is not enough time in the day.
Work is more important.
It takes up too much energy to continue.
My willpower is just not strong enough.
It no longer matters.
The family needs me.
So right now, today, let’s make a list of all of the excuses that we know we will tell ourselves and then set a plan in place to overcome them. If we are proactive and know what to do when we arrive at this place of excuses then we will be prepared to get ourselves successfully through them. 2012 can be different for many of us. Let’s work together to support each other and to be accountable.
What excuses will you tell yourself? What will you do now so that you will be able to overcome them?
